SINGAPORE : Thousands of revellers gathered at Orchard Road on Saturday evening for the annual party to celebrate Christmas.
And their mood remained upbeat despite a heavy downpour.
“Even though the rain is falling, the lights are just as bright,” said one unfazed reveller.
“It's a wet Christmas, but we sometimes have wet Christmas too. There are lots of beautiful lights here, and I'm really enjoying it,” said another.
Earlier, thousands had flocked to Singapore's shopping belt to take in the lights, soak up the yuletide spirit, and stroll down a car-free Orchard Road, one of the few times it's closed off to traffic.
The grand finale was a concert by performers from Singapore, Australia and Indonesia.
The group from Bandung – who has been performing here for the past seven years – showed off the customs of Christians in Indonesia.
“I'm wearing one of the traditional costumes from one of the tribes in Indonesia, and I want to show to the world the kind of variety that we have, in the music, songs and the dancing,” said Andreas Sebastian Hotmauli, performer of “Celebrate in Praise”.
And more feasting and partying is expected all the way to New Year's Day.
