SINGAPORE: The winning band of MediaCorp TV12 Suria’s Anugerah Band 2008 will walk away with a total prize valued at S$250,000.
Among this, the biggest nugget is a recording contract with Universal Music Malaysia, in collaboration with Rumpun Records and EZS Music Production.
The winning band will also receive a four-year artiste management contract with MediaCorp TV12’s Artiste Management Unit, a trophy and a cash prize of S$20,000.
The programme is a reality talent show that aims to showcase the Malay music scene in Singapore, and to identify the island city’s most talented music group through showmanship, stage presence, musical prowess and mass appeal.
From 160 bands that turned up for auditions in May, only six remain in the semi-finals.
The fates of these six competing bands will be sealed from a combination of judges’ marks and viewers’ votes that contribute to the final score, based on both music and star quality.
“Reality programmes, such as MediaCorp TV12 Suria’s Anugerah Band, have gained popularity in today’s environment as viewers are attracted by the concept as well as the ability to influence the results of the competition,” said Mujahid Abdul Wahab, Managing Director of Universal Muisc (M) Publishing.
“In today’s environment, the viewers want to play an active role in decision making.”
The six semi-finalists Cucu Datuk Merah, Rancour, Trabo, Putra, Fatskunks and X-Tech battled it out on stage on Tuesday, and results will be announced on July 1.
The four bands with the highest score will meet in the final showdown on July 9, at the grand finale of Anugerah Band 2008.
